Type Hindi in Devanagari right here with nothing to install, even if your keyboard shows only Latin letters (हिंदी कीबोर्ड).
The fastest way: type by sound (namaste → नमस्ते)
Turn on the Transliteration switch above the keyboard and spell Hindi words the way they sound in English letters. A popup lists ranked Devanagari spellings: pick one with the arrow keys and Space or Enter, or click it. It works word by word and the ranking is a best guess, so glance at the result. For most visitors this is quicker than learning the layout.
Click, tap, or type on the layout
You can also use the layout directly: click the on-screen keys with your mouse or finger, or type on your own keyboard through the Hindi Traditional mapping and press Esc to switch it on or off. On a phone or tablet, tap "Load Keyboard" and type on the screen, with no need to change your device's own keyboard.
How the keys are arranged
Vowel signs (matras) cluster under the left hand and common consonants under the right, so frequent syllables alternate hands. Type the consonant first, then its matra: क then ा makes का. The Shift layer holds the independent vowels (अ, आ, इ, ई and the rest) for the start of a word, plus the ready-made conjuncts क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ, and श्र.
Conjuncts, digits, and the danda
Build any conjunct with the halant ्: typing क, then ्, then ष joins them into क्ष. Hold Alt on the number row for the Devanagari digits १२३४५६७८९०, find the danda । that ends a Hindi sentence on the Shift layer, and Shift+Alt even types ॐ. The layout menu also offers Hindi (Inscript) and keyboards for Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, and other Indian scripts.
Copy, translate, or send your text
When your text is ready, hit Copy (or Ctrl+C / Cmd+C) and paste it into WhatsApp, a document, or a search box. Undo, Redo, and Clear sit in the same toolbar, and from this page you can translate what you wrote, search Google or Wikipedia in Hindi, or send it as an email without leaving the keyboard.
