This site enables you to write in your language wherever you are in the world, with a virtual onscreen keyboard emulator.
The main purpose of this site is to let everyone who gets stuck without the ability to write/type/search the internet in their own language be able to do just that (usually travelers/tourists or anyone in front of a foreign computer).
The need for this site arose due to the lack of possibility to change the keyboard language at internet places around the world. These places usually allow you to view sites in your language (browser's language encoding abilities), but don't allow you to type in your language (because of administrator or system limitations).
Furthermore, even if you can change the language, you'll probably find yourself in front of a keyboard with a different language layout, and you'll have to guess the position of the keys.
However, this site solves those problems by allowing you to type in your language, and to view your language's keyboard layout on-screen in a virtual Semi-Real keyboard. It also allows you to simply type in a different language without messing with the operating system settings.
This site was built as a conclusion to a frustrating personal experience after being stuck for two months in a foreign country without the ability to type in my language, Hebrew. After two months in Spain, where I used to go to many different internet places, all of them with this problem, I decided to write the first version of the site for my personal use (in a small, Italian internet place in Benidorm, Spain). It took less than 2 hours for a lousy semi-functioning version that only changed the letters typed on a Spanish and US keyboard to Hebrew.
A couple of months later, I invested some time to built this site to fully support around 110 layouts.
After 4 years at the end of 2009 the original code for the virtual keyboard was replaced by a new version from a big virtual keyboard project that evolved along those years on the internet and became stable - that is the version infront of you.
So go ahead – enjoy the site, and type home in your language!
Oh, I was asked to add this: apparently, this site is also good for practicing blind typing!
